{"id":29,"date":"2009-01-30T13:52:40","date_gmt":"2009-01-30T20:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inkofpark.wordpress.com\/?p=29"},"modified":"2024-09-01T20:49:06","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T02:49:06","slug":"focus-stacking-first-stumbling-steps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inkofpark.com\/?p=29","title":{"rendered":"Focus Stacking, First Stumbling Steps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\">Edit: 2009\/01\/30, evening.\u00a0 After much searching I relocated an incredible site I had encountered before.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/krebsmicro.com\/\">Charles Krebs&#8217; work<\/a> is really, really, incredible.\u00a0 I was motivated to explore focus stacking after seeing image 29 in gallery 8, which I believe was produced with stacking.\u00a0 Dig around his page, it is really awesome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">&#8212; Original &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>I ran into the technique of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Focus_stacking\">focus stacking<\/a> not long ago, and have been itching to try it since. I haven&#8217;t found good subjects, but I took a first stab this morning. The results of some of workers with this technique are absolutely mind-blowing. For some of my favorite work on the net, see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janrik.net\/insects\/ExtendedDOF\/\">http:\/\/www.janrik.net\/insects\/ExtendedDOF\/<\/a>. My example is of a small natural turquoise from a local mine. I used very poor stabilization, and I believe that has resulted in the artifacts at the far edge of the stacked frame. Nevertheless, this is very promising. Now if I can just find some interesting subjects.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.inkofpark.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/013009-2052-focusstacki11.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My shooting setup for this, by the way, is crapulent to high orders. I use a bucket on a trashcan in the sun as a sort of lightbox, and a precarious tripod to shoot. The tripod was the source of my instability issues, but the trashcan certainly didn&#8217;t help.
